Water Purifiers - Answers To Your Questions

Author: Margarette Tustle

Q: What Are Water Purifiers?

A: They are devices that take impurities and other selected elements out of the water. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes and can be found on the counter top, attached to the faucet, under the sink, or whole house systems. Depending on the type that you have, it will take different things out of the water, so you need to base your decision on which purifier meets your particular needs.

Q: Who Uses Water Purifiers?

A: Anyone who is concerned about the quality of their water source or who just wants to ensure that they have control over the quality of the water coming into their home. If you want information about the quality of water in your home, you can contact the water department of the town or city where you live and get a report of what is in your water. It will list not only contaminants, but also minerals and other naturally occurring elements. Those people who buy water purifiers want to limit the contaminants and elements even more. The city or town is required to keep the water clean to levels set by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) which have been deemed to be safe, but with all of the pollutants and contaminants in the environment today, our water sources are in definite danger.

Q: What Are The Kinds Of Water Purifiers?

A: They range anywhere for a simple pitcher that has a water filter in it, to whole house systems that are located in the garage or under the sink. You can get one that fits onto your kitchen faucet if you are mainly concerned about your water for drinking or food preparation or you can also install water purifiers in the bathroom to keep your shower and bath water clean. Some purifiers also soften hard water that makes clothes dingy, dries out your skin, and leaves deposits. The smaller water purifiers generally are less cost-effective to run over the course of time, but if you dont have a lot of money to spend up front they may be your best choice.

Q: How Much Will A Water Purification System Cost?

A: It can range anywhere from 20 to 30 dollars for a small pitcher, to over one thousand dollars for whole house water purifiers. If you are going to get one of the more elaborate purification systems you may also need to figure in the cost of installing and maintaining the system. You can get estimates for how much your water will cost per gallon based on the system you buy.

Q: What Are Some Other Advantages Of Water Purifiers?

A: Not only can some of them make your water softer, better tasting, and healthier, they will also improve the value of your home and protect your investment. Whole house water purifiers can remove chemicals and other pollutants which can damage pipes.

Q: What About Bottled Water?

A: Most bottled water is actually from the municipal water system and is not any safer than the water you get out of the tap at home. In fact, because bottled water is not regulated by the EPA it may actually have more contaminants in it. It is also much more expensive to buy over the long run than getting a purification system would be.

Q: Where Can I Find More Information About Water Purification And Water Safety?

A: You can find a lot of valuable information online. At scorecard.org you can find information based on your zip code about the pollutants and other dangers in your water.
